Footskins Video Review
I almost never post videos because I'm not such a fan of making them or even watching anything that doesn't involve silly cats. But I thought it might be an interesting format for a shoe review.
I took off my glasses because I hate them. Awkwardness and mispronouncing stuff is just part of the package :) In case you don't want to watch the video, the Footskins in question are these teepee boots.

Not sure if you'll see this,
Not sure if you'll see this, but:
When you ordered the teepee boots, did you get your regular shoe size or did you go up/down a size?
Thanks!
Normal sized and it was
Normal sized and it was plenty of room to put in heavier socks for winter.

Took off your glasses because you hate them? Nonsense. Your glasses are cute :0) I love girls with glasses... I even have a bumper sticker that says Reading is Sexy on my bicycle. Hooray for near-sighted folks who spend too much time reading!
Hey there! Just saw this ~
Hey there! Just saw this ~ thanks for making a video!
Footskins are pretty sweet.
If you are still looking for flexible and comfy winter footwear, you might want to look into another Minnesota-based footwear company, Steger Mukluks.
I have known of several people who swear by them during our Minnesota winters, and hope to get my own sometime:

Hi Melissa! Nice to "meat"
Hi Melissa! Nice to "meat" you tonight at the meatshare! :)
I look forward to figuring out the rain/snow minimalist solution that isn't hundreds of dollars. I've been thinking of making my own moccasins (and sealing them as suggested above) with a gortex and fleece liner.
Very cute video, definitely
Very cute video, definitely agree about shoes and stuff, I liked it very much, can't believe a paleo girl is all the way out in NYC, while I'm in MA, : )
I love you!
I love you!
I love vibrams so much after
I love vibrams so much after just a few weeks in my first pair I suspect I will be getting rid of all my other shoes in time, just some flat soft leathers might survive the comparison but the HIKING boot has been on my mind a LOT, this video from you was very timely. So here's my idea...
I would like a soft leather boot as you describe but fit too large specifically so I could wear a soft vibram in it. I find the toe articulation with vibram so addictive!
Oh, maybe a toe sock would do it for me, in a boot like this... hmmmm. very interesting possibilities! Thank you Melissa.
Great video - and you're cute
Great video - and you're cute as hell!
I make my own moccasins too.
I make my own moccasins too. I use deer hide, and I love the way they feel. My one concession to the modern world is a partial sole made of Vibram rubber over the main wear spots. When it rains, I just put them in my pocket and go barefoot.
Cool video, and very nice
Cool video, and very nice shoes. I'm looking myself to find some sort of similar shoes for myself in Norway, yet I'm sure is gonna be a bit more difficult to find some of those in a manly model for me ;)
Maybe I'll have to take a look at that company when I visit the states.
Cheers.
I think these Soft Stars are

i love those boots at Furcanada, omg! but i think they'd look excessive on the street in nyc.
Great video! I totally want
Great video! I totally want to get some of these - are yours the ones with the rubber sole or the leather sole?
Ah yes, the rubber sole since
Ah yes, the rubber sole since I live in the city.
I know that shoe stores sell
I know that shoe stores sell a spray for suede shoes to make them water resistant.
I think I'm in David's camp.
I think I'm in David's camp. I need something warm and slip-, water- and mud-resistant and -- hopefully -- thin and flexible, for winter. Alas, I don't have $400 bucks to spend either. (I also don't have the freezer space to store them!)
Nice review. I have made my
Nice review.
I have made my own moccasins for many years and waterproof them with a mixture of pure neatsfoot oil and beeswax.
There are a couple of caveats to this though. You can't use it on suede, and it will darken lighter shades of leather.
If you try this out make sure that you don't get neatsfoot compound as this contains petroleum penetrating agents. Mix it about 50/50 with the beeswax so that you have a soft paste. Works two or three coats into the leather and keep the moccasins warm for a few hours to allow penetration.
If you do try this out, make sure that you test it on a part of the moccasin that can't be seen to make sure that is doesn't change the color in a way you don't like.
This is not a complete waterproofing, you can't wade through water, but it will keep your moccasins dry in moderately wet conditions.
Golly you're hot...

Wow, yeah those would be
Wow, yeah those would be awesome... :D
I loved your video. I prefer
I loved your video. I prefer comfy shoes too, though don't think those would work (for me) in Georgia climate. Today, due to rain, and walking in muddy areas in my back yard,I'm wearing Target polka-dot rain boots, really!
You should post videos more
You should post videos more often! But as someone who occasionally does stuff on camera, I know how self-conscious you can get. Awesome job Melissa!
Cool video Melissa! I'm going
Cool video Melissa! I'm going to add that company to my list of moccasin makers. I'm also still trying to figure out what I'm going to wear in the winter, the Men's Walking Boots/Canoe Sole look good - but I wonder if they will get wet from snow. I really need something water proof. :/
If you have an extra $400
If you have an extra $400 these are awesome :) http://www.furcanada.com/traditional-inuit-hunters-outfit-mens-kamiks-bo...
I don't so I'm thinking of painting some cheap soft-sole moccasins with sole in a jar or even making my own sole in a jar.
