NYC Paleo Challenge
For all my carrying on about beans, I'm planning on doing January as a month of as "paleo as possible." Why? As a tune-up to see what happens and set good habits for the year, but also because other New Yorkers are trying it for our Eating Paleo in NYC New Year's Challenge! We have tons of events planned from flash mobs to running out in the snow! If you are around NYC, definitely join our group, but you can follow the challenge here and participate from home as well. Each event I do, I'll provide some tips for replicating the experience at home.

My goals are:
- More movement in my life!
- More time outside
- Less non-gluten grains, no refined sugar. Last year I stopped eating gluten, even as a "cheat", which was very successful. But what would happen if I removed or reduced other potentially damaging foods as well?
- I'm curious to see what happens without dairy, but I expect this to be the least successful change :P
What are your goals for the New Year?
Because John Durant is leading this challenge, expect actual updates :) I realize now I never updated my NOvember progress. But it was successful! I stopped buying chocolate bars, though I ate them when my roommate gave me them. In time I forgot about chocolate bars entirely, until a few days ago when I was shopping at Fairway. Instead of buying another bar, I bought a container of blocks of bittersweet chocolate to occasionally gnaw on. Much much cheaper and much less sugar than my formerly beloved flavored Belgian chocolate.

I'm taking the plunge! I've been trolling paleo and crossfit blogs for a while now. I will be at some of the events in NYC! Yay!
I've got a bunch of 2011
I've got a bunch of 2011 goals in mind, but one of the biggest ones for me will be to go beer-free for the entire year.
I am almost done with going 60 days strict... so I am either going to back off for January or step it up. Not quite sure.
Best of luck with your January goals.

When i was a kid the only candy I would get from my Dad was semi-sweet Bakers chocolate and I loved it! Still do. I find your diet fascinating and I am think I want to try it in January. It'll be tough for me to give up legumes though. I really do love beans...

I've been meaning to join the NYC Paleo group for a while now--I think I'll finally do it. I'll skip out on the snow-run, though. *Shudder*
And I'll second Kane's recommendation of Alter Ecco chocolate. The 85% with cacao nibs is wonderful.
Like you, I was a fan of
Like you, I was a fan of light sweet sugary chocolates. Since going primal, cutting out dairy, and listening to the superior wisdom of my wife, however, I have come to enjoy bitter chocolate far more than I ever enjoyed light chocolates. I even drink my coffee without sugar or honey now, and I'm hoping to try it with coconut milk in the near future.
Anyway, love your blog. Good stuff. Insightful stuff. Looking forward to more.
And, as a point of interest, Alter Eco chocolate bars are supreme. If you can find them in NYC -- I can't imagine why you wouldn't be able to; everything's in NYC -- you won't regret the purchase. And neither will the people your purchase helps.
Cheers!
Kane

I'll join you (in spirit, not in person!) I'm going to be doing the Whole30 Paleo thing during January, so I've decided to join you guys in blogging about it over at Pretty in Primal. What will happen to me without manchego and cream?? We shall see...
